7 Holiday Events to Attend in Downtown Baton Rouge (2023)

We’re almost halfway through December and it might seem like the holiday season is almost over. Maybe you haven’t had any hot cocoa yet, watched your favorite Christmas movie or even went ice skating. 

Sometimes, the holidays can often fly right past us, but don’t worry! There’s still plenty of time to soak in the magic of the holiday season. Here are 7 events in downtown Baton Rouge for the whole family to enjoy. 

Santa At The Market 

Haven’t gotten the chance to tell Santa Claus what you want for Christmas this year? Well, it’s not too late! Head over to Red Stick Farmers Market on December 23rd to see the Big Guy in person. And while you’re there, don’t forget to browse the market for all of your favorite local produce. 

Caroling in the Galleries

The LSU Museum of Art is hosting Caroling in the Galleries on December 14th at the Shaw Center. The event begins at 6:30 pm and is free for all who attend. Enjoy sweet treats and your favorite Christmas tunes. For more information on this event, visit their website

Opéra Louisiane’s Production of ‘The Christmas Spider’

Opéra Louisiane is performing their production of The Christmas Spider on December 15th and 17th at the Shaw Center downtown. There will be children’s activities before the show such as ornament decorating and more. For more information on the event or to purchase tickets, visit their website.

The Nutcracker: A Tale from the Bayou

You’ve seen The Nutcracker, but you’ve never seen it like this! The Baton Rouge Ballet is performing The Nutcracker: A Tale from the Bayou on December 16th and 17th at the River Center Theatre. You can get your tickets here

Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland

The Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland combines the whimsical fun of the circus and the spirit of the holiday season. Enjoy music, acrobatics and familiar stories with this magical experience for the whole family. December 21st at 7:00 pm at Raising Cane’s River Center. 

Holiday Movies at the Manship Theatre

Two holiday classics. One Location. Enjoy showings of Dr. Suess’ The Grinch and Frank Capra’s 1946 It’s A Wonderful Life, hosted by the Manship Theatre on December 21st and 22nd. You can purchase tickets through the Manship website. 

Ice Skating on the River

It’s not often we get a winter wonderland in Baton Rouge! Join ‘Ice Skating on the River’ at the Raising Cane’s River Center from December 18th through the 31st. Sessions are 75 minutes long and skates are included with the purchase of tickets
